Buddhist International welcomes Sri Lankan government’s decision to build a Buddhist monastery in Nepal. According to Sri Lankan media, the cabinet has approved a proposal made to build a Buddhist monastery and a Hindu monastery. It is further learnt, the decision had been taken following a report sent by the Sri Lankan Embassy of Nepal, mentioning that a number of Buddhist monasteries were destroyed in the earthquake that occurred on 25 April.
AT the same time, BI urges Sri Lankan authorities to move beyond constructing temples. Buddhist International strongly believes, adhering bilateral strategies to spread and develop Theravada tradition in Nepal is essential.
In 2007, Sri Lanka celebrated the golden jubilee of bilateral relationships between two countries.
